PRESENTING ARTIST + REHEARSAL SPACE — $325
Includes everything above, plus:
  • Up to 20 hours of rehearsal space at UMA
  • Access is limited to designated available studio times
  • Current mirrored-studio availability at 2100 Chestnut and 812 Chestnut is primarily Monday–Friday, 8 AM–2 PM
  • Additional times may be available depending on the studio schedule
  • Rehearsal hours are non-transferable, do not roll over, and expire at the conclusion of this WORKINONIT cycle

Performance Format
This is an intentionally simple presentation environment.
Works will be presented toward the east or west side of Griffin Hall with a black backdrop. Basic sound is provided. Lighting will use a general single-color/look rather than individualized lighting design.

MoveMakers Philly is hiring a dependable, service-oriented youth educator to join our after-school team at Gloria Casarez Elementary School.

This is first and foremost an after-school youth-development position. The person in this role will help create a safe, structured and engaging environment for elementary-age students from arrival through dismissal.

We are looking for someone who is comfortable working in an urban school community, has experience supporting young people with a wide range of behavioral and social-emotional needs, and can remain patient, consistent and constructive when circumstances are challenging.

Experience leading a particular enrichment area—such as art, music, dance, sports, fitness, STEM, theater, literacy, games or another youth-centered specialty—is strongly valued, but the ability to lead groups of children and contribute to a strong after-school environment is the foundation of the job.

The environment and the work
Casarez serves children and families in a historically underserved Philadelphia community. Our students bring different strengths, personalities, experiences and needs into the program each day.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have demonstrated experience building positive relationships with Black and Latino youth and families in urban communities, including young people who may be navigating behavioral challenges or the effects of community stressors.

Strong candidates understand that this work requires more than simply teaching an activity. It requires consistency, cultural responsiveness, relationship-building, clear expectations, good judgment and a genuine interest in service.

Experience in community-based youth programs, public schools, recreation programs, camps, mentoring, behavioral support or comparable settings is especially valuable.

Regular responsibilities
The recurring schedule includes:
  • Monday–Friday, 2:00–6:00 PM onsite
  • 3 additional paid planning/meeting hours each week
  • Monday–Thursday may also be considered depending on staffing needs

Responsibilities include:
  • supervising and engaging groups of elementary-age students;
  • establishing and reinforcing clear routines, expectations and positive behavior;
  • supporting snack and meal routines;
  • managing transitions between spaces and activities;
  • assisting with playground, recreation and group activities;
  • supporting dismissal and family pick-up procedures;
  • responding calmly and constructively to behavioral challenges;
  • helping students resolve conflict and return successfully to programming;
  • communicating effectively with students, families, teammates and program leadership;
  • navigating difficult parent or family interactions professionally, maintaining appropriate boundaries, and escalating concerns to program leadership when needed;
  • collaborating closely with teammates so that expectations, routines, behavior responses and daily operations are consistent across the program;
  • maintaining appropriate professional conduct and documentation;
  • assisting the Site Director and team with general day-to-day after-school operations;
  • participating in staff meetings, planning and training;
  • communicating concerns promptly when follow-up is needed.


The 3 weekly planning/meeting hours may be used for lesson and activity planning, staff coordination, curriculum preparation, documentation, training, meetings and other approved program-related work.

Enrichment and teaching
Candidates who have a skill or specialty they can share with youth are strongly encouraged to apply.
Examples include:
  • visual art or crafts;
  • music;
  • dance or movement;
  • sports or fitness;
  • martial arts;
  • theater or performance;
  • STEM;
  • literacy or creative writing;
  • games and recreation;
  • media or technology;
  • other structured enrichment activities.
The ability to develop and lead workshops or recurring classes is a plus, but applicants do not need to be professional teaching artists.
The primary requirement is the ability to successfully lead, support and build relationships with groups of children.

Compensation
$20 per hour. This rate is fixed for the position.

The standard recurring commitment is:
  • up to 20 onsite program hours per week for a Monday–Friday schedule
  • 3 paid planning/meeting hours per week
  • up to 23 paid hours per week total
Additional approved meetings, trainings, special events, school-closing programs or substitute assignments are also paid at $20/hour when separately scheduled.

Required meetings and professional development
MoveMakers staff participate in periodic organizational meetings, curriculum development and staff training during the school year.
OST employees are also expected to complete approximately 20 hours of required professional development during the program year, separate from the regular weekly schedule. Required training hours are compensated at $20/hour.

Start date and priority clearance requirementsThe selected candidate may be eligible to begin work as soon as the primary clearances required for onsite youth programming are complete, submitted and approved. Candidates who already hold current acceptable clearances may be able to start sooner.
The following are required before beginning onsite work:
  1. PA Criminal Background Check
  2. PA Child Abuse / ChildLine Clearance
  3. FBI fingerprint clearance
  4. Mandatory Reporter Training — Parts 1 & 2
  5. Staff Health Assessment and TB testing

Additional required onboarding items will be completed after hire and may include Act 168 documentation, NSOR verification, Disclosure Statement, required DHS health and safety trainings, and First Aid/CPR.

First Aid/CPR will be coordinated through a team Red Cross training process.

MoveMakers provides a $200 paid clearance and start-up stipend for completing required clearance, onboarding and start-up work. Required clearance expenses are also reimbursed with submitted receipts.

Qualifications
We are looking for someone who has:
  • meaningful experience working directly with elementary-age or middle-school youth;
  • experience leading groups of children in an after-school, school, camp, recreation, mentoring or community setting;
  • demonstrated ability to establish relationships while maintaining clear expectations and boundaries;
  • comfort supporting children with different behavioral, emotional and developmental needs;
  • patience, resilience and good judgment during difficult moments;
  • experience working with youth and families in historically underserved urban communities;
  • the ability to communicate professionally with parents and caregivers, including during difficult or emotionally charged interactions;
  • strong teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate with colleagues around routines, discipline, programming and daily operations;
  • dependability and consistent attendance;
  • willingness to receive feedback and learn established MoveMakers systems.
Strongly preferred: demonstrated experience working successfully with Black and Latino children and families in Philadelphia or comparable urban communities.

A background in youth development, education, social services, recreation, arts education, coaching, mentoring or community work is particularly relevant.

Reliability
This is a recurring school-based youth position, and consistent attendance is essential.

MoveMakers Philly is hiring a reliable, prepared dance instructor to join our after-school team at James R. Lowell School.
This position combines youth dance instruction with the day-to-day responsibilities of an elementary after-school program. We are looking for someone who enjoys working with young people, can plan and lead engaging dance classes, and is also comfortable supporting the broader routines that make an after-school program run well.

A strong dance background is required. Experience in street dance is strongly valued, but dancers from other backgrounds with strong youth-teaching skills are encouraged to apply.

Teachers should also have a strong command of street dance styles and an understanding of history and culture. Instructors should demonstrate willingness and interest to learn MoveMakers pedagogy. MoveMakers instructors are strong contributors to general OST programming, supporting other staff to provide youth with experiences and enrichment everyday. 

We are looking for exuberant, inspirational,  motivated and friendly people to join the MoveMakers team as dance instructors.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Instruct and manage programs for PSD students, ages K-8.
  • Demonstrate high level skill  in teaching street dance, including foundations and contemporary vernacular.
  • Collaborate with MoveMakers team to bring high quality programs to PSD schools  
  • Participate in trainings 
  • Support administrative and bureaucratic procedures 
  • Connect with students and recruit for program activities
  • Be on-site at the school during all program hours, which include PSD half days. Demonstrate availability to meet in person with MMP staff and other collaborators. A portion of administrative duties are expected to be completed remotely.

Piece Descriptions: 
JESS
This piece will use waacking, set to Y2K/ early 00’s medley with a high-energy vibe/ time capsule channeling peak Y2K culture. Think velour tracksuits ("that's hot!"), glitter lip gloss, and flip phones, driven by a soundtrack that hits harder than your old dial-up connection.


MARCUS
In the gritty underworld of 1920s Chicago, feared gangster Vincent Moretti rules with an iron fist and a reputation for ruthless power. But beneath the sharp suits and cold stare lies a shattered heart, still aching from a lost love. What begins as calculated mafia moves slowly unravels as his emotions take the wheel, pulling him toward mercy and redemption instead of violence. A story of power, pain, and the unexpected path of the heart.
The show blends raw street dance energy with subtle 1920s jazz flair. Expect powerful modern choreography laced with locking, popping, and sharp isolations, all driven by deep emotional gestures. Every movement reflects the character’s inner turmoil and broken heart, creating an intense, atmospheric fusion of street style and heartfelt storytelling.

FLOW STATE features physically daring and artistically adventurous dance works, fusing the worlds of street, contemporary theater and folkloric dance. Performance material is generated via workshops led by: Dylan Smythe, Chloe Marie, Kayliani Sood and Jonathan Van Arneman. The choreographers share an aim of producing a dance experience that unites virtuosity, whimsy, the ethereal, surrealism and groove.
