Join UMA’s new Battle Training Program
Recommended for Advanced Beginners and above
UMA Battle Crew is a program for dancers of various levels that aims to support dancers in reaching their fullest potential.
Competition isn’t the end all be all. But competition when approached properly can offer many benefits. Competition gives us a clear direction. It raises the stakes which can compel us to dig deep. The passion and care required to prepare well for competition sets the stage for us to give all of ourselves, to leave it all on the floor.
UMA Battle Crew will provide a nurturing platform for individuals to push themselves. The Crew is an outlet for going hard in an effort to level up our adaptability and fortify our spirits.
The program is led by Marcus “Epic Phlave” Tucker, one of Philly's most respected dancers. Marcus has coached many street dancers to achieve their personal best. And he is here to do the same for UMA Crew members.
This program will help newer street dancers gain command over their abilities and expand their knowledge. It will support more experienced dancers with refining their technique and their personal voice. All participants will gain tools for making more impact in the scene at large.

UMA Battle Crew Method
Build comprehensive street dance knowledge: UMA Battle Crew takes inspiration from the idea of a quintessential “Philly Dancer.” Philly dancers are notorious for being knowledgeable and strong across multiple forms and styles. The program features a series if various intensives that deal with a specific form with the intention of giving participants the knowledge and skill to be dope across the street dance spectrum.
Clarity in expectation and criteria: The program aims to challenge the standards for specificity around rules, values and expectations in street dance competition. We aim to be clear with standards, formats and models so that participants are able to pursue clear objectives.
Community centered in order to build each individual: This program is crew before individual. We expect that there will be level disparity. We are devoted to building everyone in the room to achieve their best. The crew succeeds when all feel accomplished and successful.
Historical and Cultural Study: The program will support students with studying historical moments and figures in all of the dance forms. It is through history that we are able to understand archetypes in forms. Dancers will be supported in their journey to be relevant with important historical and current archetypes in the dance forms while developing their own voice.
Training Mindset: This program takes practice beyond the classroom. We support students in learning how to develop a pseudo-athlete mindset. We drill to build skill.
Each One Teach One: This is a program that values collaboration and friendliness.
