What Does The Jamboree Entail?
The Jamboree is a month of extreme sales on class passes and performances. All of the sales present current students and new students with an opportunity to gain immense value in a single purchase. Each class purchase provides free or extremely discounted tickets to the September’s lineup of shows. We are making all the goods very accessible and this is just the kind of crazy I want it to be!
The crazy of the class pass sales is a bit of the same crazy of September’s performances. All of the performances presented through the course of September aim to challenge what you’re accustomed to in the performing arts. Kayla + 3 GuitarsFriday, September 29th at 7:30pm
Urban Movement Arts 812 Chestnut St. This is the remount of Kayla + 3 Guitars, first performed in June 2023. This project was an expansive experience for all collaborators. It was my first time setting an evening length solo on another dancer. It was composer Eric McGarry’s first time composing for dance. It was Kayla’s first time performing a full length solo, which is no easy feat. It is a great privilege to be able to revisit this work. We hope all of you that saw the first installment will join us to see what we’ve learned and how we’ve grown. If you weren’t there for the first, we look forward to providing you a blanket of auditory and visual adventure, ambience and dreaminess.

Urban Movement Arts 2100 Chestnut St., 2nd Fl The brilliant and lovely Kayliani and Ase dance to the improvised music of composer and musician Steven Perry. This piece is a playful exploration of states of being, relationships and communication. Kayliani and Ase flow through multiple dance forms from street to post modern. They make us laugh, dance and dream. Steve’s playing of the vibraphone floats us closer to the stars in an already whimsical night. Huff, Puffs and Ubiquities was first performed in May 2023. This is yet another Jamboree event in which we are privileged to share our growth

Noize FreakFriday, September 29th at 9pm
Urban Movement Arts 812 Chestnut St. Noize Freak is one of UMA’s resident parties. What makes Noize Freak different from any other party in town is that it is set entirely to live improvised music. The musicians that take part in Noize Freak always talk about how it is nothing like anything that they’ve done before and that they love it. And their music allows the dancers to make a connection with the music that is rarely achieved in this day of press play DJs. It is a night of inspirational collaboration between the crafts. Come out for Noize Freak and a good sweat. It is the perfect way to top off the night, if you were first with us for Kaya + 3 Guitars

The Philliest DisSSaturday, September 30th at 8pm
Urban Movement Arts 2100 Chestnut St., 2nd Fl Philly people love a good dance battle. The Philliest Diss is a dance battle like no other. The Philliest Diss teams up a dancer and a band vs. a dancer and another band. This is a battle won based on which interdisciplinary crew can lock in with one another the best in head to head competition. This event pushes all of the artists to lengths that they’ve never been pushed and will certainly entertain.
