Piece Descriptions:
JESS
This piece will use waacking, set to Y2K/ early 00’s medley with a high-energy vibe/ time capsule channeling peak Y2K culture. Think velour tracksuits ("that's hot!"), glitter lip gloss, and flip phones, driven by a soundtrack that hits harder than your old dial-up connection.

MARCUS
In the gritty underworld of 1920s Chicago, feared gangster Vincent Moretti rules with an iron fist and a reputation for ruthless power. But beneath the sharp suits and cold stare lies a shattered heart, still aching from a lost love. What begins as calculated mafia moves slowly unravels as his emotions take the wheel, pulling him toward mercy and redemption instead of violence. A story of power, pain, and the unexpected path of the heart.
The show blends raw street dance energy with subtle 1920s jazz flair. Expect powerful modern choreography laced with locking, popping, and sharp isolations, all driven by deep emotional gestures. Every movement reflects the character’s inner turmoil and broken heart, creating an intense, atmospheric fusion of street style and heartfelt storytelling.
Music: Michael Jackson. “The Blue Gangsta”

UMA’s Dance Film Workshop

Experience A Dance Making Process for Film with Marcus and Alexis

Classes/Rehearsals run July 7th- August 26th

We are proud to launch our inaugural dance music video program. This program is inspired by the stunning video work produced by Rylee and the UMAMI Collective this season.

This summer will feature a session with Alexis and two with Marcus. Both teachers will implement their signature styles to make unique video expressions of choreography and street dance artistry.

This program is a send off for our dear Alexis who will be pursuing career advancements beyond Philly in the upcoming season.

This program is recommend for experience students, advance beginners/intermediate and above. This program is not recommended for dancers that are beginners or haven’t participated in a performance program before. For students that are not ready for the choreographic challenges, teachers might recommend that students focus on WORKINONIT and/ Flow States Series coming up for 2026 Fringe.
