“The Umami Collective” gives students the opportunity to perform throughout the year, refine movement ability, and hone in on performance skills. This program offers three different levels for any mover to experience the opportunity to perform or be a part of a movement visual. The mission is to create an environment that supports dancers by giving tools needed to perform and prepare dancers to participate in professional work.
Through a combination of technical training, improvisation exercises, and performance workshops, dancers in this program will develop the skills and confidence to deliver performances across a variety of dance styles and genres. The specific genres that will be explored are the styles Rylee includes in her personal movement practice which include Waacking/Vogue/Heels/Street Jazz/Hip Hop/House/Contemporary/Jazz. Any other style may be explored by invited guest artists or student choreography.
Besides improving performance quality of movement this program will also serve as a way to prepare dancers for professional work whether its stage or film. Learning how to take notes from the choreographer, working efficiently with peers, understanding what it means to be adaptable as a dancer, knowing how to prepare for auditions, and gaining basic entrepreneurship skills as a dancer will be the main key points.
We are committed to providing a supportive and collaborative learning environment where dancers of all levels can develop their performance qualities, refine their artistry, and unlock their full potential as movers on the stage.
