Movemakers outreach program
MoveMakers Philly is our affiliated youth program. MoveMakers Philly and UMA are financially tied- so supporting one organization supports the other. Dope! MoveMakers Philly is launching their 2022/2023 fundraising campaign to help underserved youth attend MoveMakers programming. Check it out below!

Help MoveMakers and UMA reach underserved youth in Philadelphia
This is our second holiday season fundraiser. I AM THE MOVE has been quite busy since its start in the Spring of 2021, which started our summer camp scholarship program. In November of 2021, the holiday season fundraiser was aimed at raising money to bring our programs to Philadelphia Schools for the first time. You helped us to raise $13,000, which allowed us to offer weekly classes in 4 Philadelphia public schools, assemblies and special events during the school year.
We've already started the school year with residencies in 3 schools (Logan, Disston and Tilden). We'd like to go to 6 to 8 schools by early 2023. We have some other goals too, explained below.
MoveMakers and UMA are poised to do work that makes a difference for young Philadelphians.
This holiday season let's continue to level up. Let's raise $20,000 to support sending our instructors to Philadelphia Public schools for weekly classes, performance, mentoring and more.
If you are looking for good causes for the holidays and perhaps you'd also benefit from making tax-deductible contributions before filing for 2022, bring I AM THE MOVE to the top of your list!

Our Goals for the 2022/2023 Season
Our Success of 2021/2022 Season
- Pilot digital beat making/ music production program in 1-2 Philadelphia Middle School
- We operate music classes at 2100. Members of our staff have experience providing digital music lessons to group classes. Sad to say, but instrument learning is antiquated. Programs that focus on instrument learning certainly matter, but they are restricted in how many children they can serve at once. Our teachers that work in this field have had proven success with digital music education. Afterall, the music industry is defined by digital production. Our organization is thinking about the future, while many others are set in the past.
- Professional development and collaboration with Global Writes , a non-profit based in the Bronx, New York
- Global Writes is a well established education resource organization uses the arts and technology as means to improve students' academic performance. I've been in steady contact with the heads of this organization and we are eager to find ways to work together. From my vantage point, working with Global Writes will provide critical professional development opportunities for our entire staff, including me. Collaboration will allow us to bring hip hop dance into classrooms in completely innovative ways, using the dance form to directly impact academic performance and outcomes.
- Increase our presence in the Philadelphia School District
- Currently we are working in Fern Rock, Tacony and South West Philadelphia. It is my goal for MoveMakers and UMA to touch down throughout Philadelphia, County. This season, let push for 6-8 class residencies in Philadelphia.
Our Success of 2021/2022 Season
- We provided class to 140 kids weekly in Philadelphia public schools
- 78.6% of middle schoolers and teenages surveyed said that their moods were much better to extremely better after MoveMakers Philly classes
- 71.5% of middle schoolers and teenage surveyed said that classes helped them to be in a better mental and emotional state for their next endeavor, whether it was a class, going to a new activity or home for the day
- We provided 30 scholarships to 2022 Summer Camp.
- 85.7% of families surveyed said that summer camp increased their child's confidence
- 100% of families surveyed said that their children made new friends with 85% mentioning that their child had an opportunity to socialize with children from neighborhoods that they wouldn't otherwise have access to.
- Currently 13 students are receiving scholarships for the 2022/2023 school season
- We've provided new work opportunities and professional development for 7 dance teaching artist who have graduated from college within the past 3 years
