ROM Martial Arts Mobility and Drilling
Martial Arts rely on physical dexterity and dynamism. This class is focused on enhancing students' abilities to move. The Mobility and Drilling class prepares ROM students for combat training classes. Students learn stances, footwork, falls, rolls, striking techniques and more. Students learn flow patterns, agility exercises and games that help to develop mental and physical plasticity to help with combat learning. Strength and conditioning are other cornerstones of the class; it is certainly a workout. This class aims to provide a fun, yet challenging environment for ROM students to grow together. ROM Grappling ROM Grappling class promotes a comprehensive understanding of grappling. Students will learn various clinches, takedowns, and groundwork techniques. The class will teach concepts and principles borrowed from judo and wrestling, all while contextualizing it to striking. We will chain together striking with grappling and grappling with striking. Students will also learn how to execute takedowns and throws with the aim of landing in advantageous positions. Students will learn judo in a concept and principled based way. Understanding how to be balanced and breaking a person's balance is key to judo. This is called kuzushi! We will learn to work together when learning these techniques. In this class there is an art to cooperation and roles to be established. In judo you have a Uke and a Tori. The Uke receives the technique and the Tori executes the technique. This is important for creating a healthy way for people to practice with one another and learn how to cooperate in a purposeful manner. This alone is an expression of a core principal that we value at ROM, creating an environment where we are all students and learning from one another. |
ROM Kenpo Karate/ Kickboxing
ROM Kenpo Karate/kickboxing will involve students learning concepts and principles. Students will be shown techniques and forms that support development of technique, control and understanding. ROM Kenpo Karate can be seen as “combative yoga”. The movements that students will learn will help them understand their body better. The byproduct of students knowing their bodies better is being better equipped to grow as martial artists. Students will also learn concepts and principles that are inspired by the J.L.F.S (Joe Lewis Fighting System). Students also learn elements of Dutch and Thai kickboxing systems. Our goal is for students to understand distance, timing, and angles through learning the art and science of striking. The goal is to support students with developing an effective fighter mindset and skillset. |
