The original UMA Dip is aimed at providing newcomers to dance with a comfortable venue for getting acquainted with their bodies and with rhythm. Students have the opportunity to work through a comfortably paced introduction to the various elements of dancing, including grooves and footwork.
The UMA DIP: Choreography Edition is essentially the next tier above the standard program. The choreography edition is for dance enthusiasts that are interested in learning how to learn choreography.
Choreography is a central component to any dance class. But in almost every beginner class, choreography is just thrown at dancers, assuming that they've had some prior experience with learning movement in such a format.
Alexis' class disrupts the norm and takes the position that beginners should be taught how to learn choreo.
Here are some central questions that you might have:
1. How do I position myself best in the room?
2. How do I organize my body and my thinking so that I can process the information?
3. How do I watch the teacher to best gather what they are doing?
4. How do I not get distracted by other people in the room?
5. How do I use the mirror to my advantage?
6. How do I remember what the teacher already showed me why they are adding new material to the combo?
If you've asked yourself any of these questions, then The UMA DIP: Choreography Edition might be exactly what you need!
